How to Calculate Lot Size in Forex
Understanding Lot Sizes in Forex
In forex, a lot represents a standard unit of trade. Standard lot = 100,000 units, mini lot = 10,000 units, micro lot = 1,000 units, and nano lot = 100 units. For Pakistan traders with smaller accounts, micro lots are most common. When you trade using USDT TRC20 deposits, your account is in USD, so pip values are in USD. For EUR/USD, one pip on a micro lot is $0.10, on a mini lot $1.00, and on a standard lot $10.00.
The Formula for Lot Size Calculation
The universal formula is: Lot size = (Account balance × Risk %) ÷ (Stop loss in pips × Pip value). Let's use a Pakistan-specific example: You deposit PKR 50,000 via Easypaisa into a broker with an Islamic account. You decide to risk 2% (PKR 1,000). Your stop loss is 30 pips on USD/PKR pair. Pip value for a micro lot on USD/PKR is PKR 10 (since 1 pip = 1 unit of quote currency). So, Lot size = (50,000 × 0.02) ÷ (30 × 10) = 1,000 ÷ 300 = 3.33 micro lots (0.033 lots). Always round down to 0.03 lots for safety.
Using Leverage in Pakistan
Many brokers offer Pakistan traders high leverage like 1:500 or 1:1000. This means with $100 (funded via USDT TRC20), you can control $50,000. However, leverage amplifies both profits and losses. When calculating lot size, consider leverage: if your broker requires margin, ensure your lot size doesn't exceed your margin limit. For example, with 1:500 leverage and $200 balance, you can trade up to 0.4 standard lots, but risk management suggests much smaller sizes.
Practical Example for Pakistan Traders
Let's say you have PKR 200,000 in your account (funded via JazzCash), risk 1% (PKR 2,000), stop loss 40 pips on EUR/USD, and pip value for a micro lot is $0.10 (approx PKR 28). Convert risk to USD: PKR 2,000 / 280 = $7.14. Then Lot size = $7.14 ÷ (40 × $0.10) = 7.14 ÷ 4 = 1.78 micro lots (0.0178 lots). Round to 0.01 or 0.02 lots. Always use a lot size calculator or broker's tool for accuracy.
